Seeing as how I'm obsessed with mason jars, it's really no surprise that my project for week 5 of Kim's Dare to DIY Challenge: Dare to Decorate is a DIY Mason Jar Snowglobe. Have you seen these things floating around Pinterest? Apparently Anthropologie is selling these babies for a pretty penny. However, I'm confused, because don't snow globes have water in them? Anthro's version doesn't. Don't get me wrong, they're adorable as is. Check out the ones my friend Bethany made. Yep, adorbs. But I wanted water in mine to get the full snow globe effect. So I glued my little tree to the lid of the mason jar, shook a little faux snow and glitter in there, then filled it to the very tippy top with water. I screwed that bad boy shut.
Then shook the crap out of it.
A lot of the snow stayed at the top of the jar so maybe I used too much? Who knows. And who knows about the longevity of this thing. I'm crossing my fingers it doesn't leak or anything. But as usual, I really don't care. It looks pretty right now and my need for instant glittery gratification has been satisfied.
Now go check out the rest of the holiday pretties...
p.s. Thanks to all of you that went and offered your help for Operation WANA. You guys are amazing.

I've been dying to try these! Great job!
I likey. Very muchy.
I actually have a huge box of these trees. (Why wouldn't I buy a jumbo pack at some point?) So now I"m thinking a few mason jar snowglobes are in my future.
what a cute idea.
So cute and charming! (Even if it doesn't last forever.) Don't you love it when you can save $$$ and make your own knock-offs? :)
I love these. I'm making some this weekend!
These are fun! I'd make a total mess...
Shan, way to completely one-up me with this "water + glitter" technique. ;)
But seriously, they're ultra cute. I thought about adding water to mine, too, but I'm the laziest crafter ever...so it was no-go for me. But now I regret it because they look WAY cuter with water.
I now feel the need to make 17 more.
So cute! I think you're supposed to add a bit of mineral oil or glycerin in it to keep the stuff moving.
Cute! I definitely like the water. Your writing style cracks me up!
Those were totally the same snowflakes. I actually bought them to make the wreath first. ;)
That is a really clever idea. I think yours looks great - even if a lot of the snow stayed at the top!
Fun! Have you seen the glitter calm or time out jars on pintrest? I made few of those for my classroom....but I haven't brought them in to school yet because I'm having too much fun with them at home.
