V to the Log

Well guys, it's my first vlog. The Accent Blog. I saw my incredibly awesome blog-hero Emily at Imperfect do hers and realized that now would be a good time to go public with my real live voice. Incredibly exciting, no? Yeah, probably not. But anyway, here I am. Things I forgot to mention 1) I was raised outside of Philadelphia so if I have an accent, that would be it. 2) I think I have a lisp. Not cool.

Accent Vlog from Shannon Wellington on Vimeo.
The instructions are to say these words:

Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught

And answer these questions:
•What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
•What is the bug that when you touch it, it curls into a ball?
•What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
•What do you call gym shoes?
•What do you say to address a group of people?
•What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?
•What do you call your grandparents?
•What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?
•What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
•What is the thing you change the TV channel with?

De-lurking to comment...

No noticeable accent to me!! :) I do notice the lisp a little- I have a little bit of a lisp too- I don't notice it unless I'm watching a video of myself or listening to myself. My mom and sister do it as well.

Gabe is adorable!! :)

Hahaha! I love you looking out of the corner of your eye and then Gabe starts crawling all over you -hilarious.

He stole the show for me- but I already know what you sound like.

I like this idea

I love the Philly accent and miss it so. Door and Water were my favorite words to hear.

And Yes I want to meet Gabe... I love how casual and relaxed you are- I would be tripping over my words like crazy.

I loved your video. You seriously crack me up. When I saw Emily's vlog today, I was totally reminded of when you told me that my voice wasn't what you expected from my blog. I gotta try this.

PS - I want you to come live near me. Have I mentioned that?

Freaking love it! I think it's not so much people's voices that throws me as the way people move their mouths. Does that make sense? Like, everyone's voices - ok, kinda sound like their blogs, but watching how their mouths move, totally different. Who knows. Anyway, i want to be your BFF.

Awesome and I agree with most, no accent detectable :) I should try this ... we Canadians are known for our Northern accents! LOL

And Gabe - I didnt think I could LOVE HIM even more but he's adorable :)

Oh, I LOVE it. I only noticed an accent on a few words...like water and such, but otherwise your accent would have stumped me!

I also have a friend who called it a "buggy". He is really hot. And I always wanted to marry him and live in South Carolina where we would go shopping with our buggy. Sigh. Guess that's one dream that didn't come to fruition. ;)

It was SO fun to see your face and expressions! And I'm jealous of your hair. It looks so healthy and flowy. Mine is neither. But my hair aside, do another vlog soon! Please! :)

I never noticed how strong my Philly accent was until watching myself on a video! Ridiculous. I think mine is worse than yours is from hearing a few of the words you said. My non-Philly friends always have fun with me and make me say phone and home (I guess northeasters say them different?) and ask what I want again when I say hoagie. Who knows...I love my accent though!
Sassage is a friggin riot by the way, I have never heard that!

P.S. I was expecting "yous" in there somewhere!

You crack me up! :) "What's up dudes?" lol! And Gabe is tooooo cute!

That was fun...but I think what I enjoyed most was watching Gabe and hearing him giggle.

Yay, I was waiting for that Philly "water" pronunciation! Love it. After seeing you and Emily, I might just have to do this.

And how cute is Gabe? Love that you were brave enough to do this when he was awake!

I am wondering if your "super secret plans" have to do with your upcoming big announcement.

I am on the edge of my seat here!

Also, I like the way you say water. :)

According to Ashley said...

"Water" cracked me up....and sassage! I was like, "Um...say what?" Oh and of course Gabe was the star of the show crawling all up in the corner of the screen.

I love how you say "sausage" and I want to call my shopping cart a buggy too!

Great vlog!

Maegan :)

That was the best shout-out ever. I think my crush on you increased ever so slightly with the word "water."

Must. Come. To. PA.

I love how Gabe is crawling all over you! Outstanding! And by the way, I did not see your video before I did mine, but MY 12 year old son also says RUE-EEN, a la Stewie -- and I said that in my video. How funny!

So you have a 12 year old and a baby! You are truly the mother goddess! So much fun! ;-)
