I've been up to my eyeballs in gnomey/shroom birthday party planning shenanigans (I really want to spell this shannanigans btw). And I'm pretty proud of myself for starting to plan way early because did I mention that shit takes 12 times longer when there's a rugrat crawling around? So anyway, I've been crafting up decor, planning menus and picking up supplies when I can. We're at about t-minus 2.5 months away and I'm gonna need every minute. Here's what I've been up to...
A little inspiration board (with sources found on my pinterest board) show the main attraction of the dessert table: mushroom cap cupcakes on tree stump pedestals. I've got my brother and his chainsaw on retainer to slice me up some stump action. In addition to the cupcakes I'm thinking of doing these strawberry shortcake kabobs and some gnome cookies. I have to keep in mind that this par-tay will be happenin under the blazin' August sun so I can't have anything melty.
Obviously I chose the gnome theme for the dress up possibilites, so I'll be setting up a little photobooth area with gnome hats and beards and whatnot. And how cute are those giant lawn shrooms? I might have to put Gabe to work with a can of spray paint and some felt circles. Don't worry, I'll give him a baby dust mask.
And here's a peek into my nasty basement which I've turned into my party catch-all.
My mom's been picking up gnomes for me here and there but look what I scored at Homegoods this weekend...
He's huge. Well, huge for a gnome. Hes like two feet tall. And he's aqua. Perfect right? I put him in my cart and walked around the store like eighty times trying to figure out whether he was worth 30 bucks. I kept calling John to have him talk me out of it buuuuutt he never answered. So I bought him. Luckily John thought he was awesome too.
I've also decided on a lunch menu...and of course it fits into the theme...it's all going to be gnome-sized!
And more importantly, it's stuff I can prepare ahead of time and no one will have to man the grill or anything.
You excited? I am. Got any other gnomey goodness to share with me?

I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS POST!!!! What fun. I love this idea. I think your cupcake tower is going to be perfect. And the big gnome - a must.
Ahh! Love it all! I can't wait to see it all come together. You have inspired me to get on the party planning train, of course, I am nowhere near as ambitious as you! PS. Good call on buying the large aqua gnome. I don't know how you even THOUGHT you couldn't buy him!
Awesome!! It looks like you're on top of things and everything so far looks fantastic! Can't wait to see how the big day pulls together :)
I'm excited to be a part of this. I will not let you down.
I'm thinking that in honor of my favorite Nickelodean show you need to have the Gnomes cartoon playing someone on a movie theater sized screen, because, you know, this is about your 30 year old friend's nostalgia and not your child.
so fun! and seriously, the dress up opps are fantastic. can i come??? or at least, can you send me a gnome cookie??? ;) birthday boy will love it!
I gnome you are but what am I?
This is going to be the best first birthday party ever! Seriously, does Gabe know how lucky his is? Can't wait to see it all come together!
Wow that will be one fun party. Have you checked Joanne Fabrics? They have gnomeys pretty cheap and always have coupons.
Question: where does one find three identical teal gnomes? I swear I want to follow you around just to figure out where you find this shit...
Sooo, I'm dying over the idea of strawberry shortcake kabobs. Best idea EVAAAAAAAAR. And the cupycakes. Perfection.

I love the Gnome theme for Gabe's first birthday. And by the looks of it, you've been able to find some great accessories!
This is going to be the most adorable party EVER! Cannot wait to see it all come together.
Wow, I don't think I've ever heard of a gnome-themed party before, but it looks like it's going to be awesome! Dare I say, gnome-tastic? Okay, that was a stretch... Love the cupcake stand idea and the stumps.
it's going to be crazy! I can't wait to see all that you do for his 1st birthday. I had so much fun planning my son's 1st bday party and I am so NOT a planner. The gnome idea is really cute too!
