After years and years of watching everyone and their mother slather chalkboard paint on every available surface and never having the gumption to do it myself, I finally came across this. Michael's amazingly creative use of a chalkboard wall convinced me that this is what I needed to do. Go big or go home. Wait, I'm already home. Go big AND go home then. So we did. I picked this wall in our breakfast room.
Over the course of two weeks, John removed the shelves that were hanging there, patched and sanded the holes then carefully applied 3 coats of the paint. Dude, I've never been so impatient in my life. Well maybe except for when I was waiting to birth a baby but right after that comes this. In my head, this whole process took forEVER. But alas, the night came when I could finally write. And if you follow me on twitter or facebook (like I'd love you to do :) then you'll know that I got chalker's block. I had this huge blank canvas, what would I create?
So I made this...
It's nowhere in particular. And I'm no draw-er. But I like it. And my childhood dreams of having my very own giant chalkboard came alive. I had so much fun doodling. And I can change it whenever I want. And I will. And I'll share. Dude, the possibilities are endless. I'll even let you guys write on it when you visit. You'd like that, wouldn't ya?

i hope you love it! and enjoy it!
it's really brilliant. yay!!
Ha....wait a minute...I need to step around Michael Who-Loo's pee...okay, I'm good. WHA!!?? It looks so great I'M YELLING. SOOO jealous...is this wall attached pretty well? I may steal it. (or I could trade for cinny rolls) I don't have smooth enough walls in our house (old plaster) to do this....I'm totally coveting yours. I can see it now though...my husband would totally draw giant you-know-whats on it...I would have to erase my wall everyday. I'll just enjoy yours. LOL
i love that! it looks fantastic! and you chose a great thing to draw on it! fits right in. and i'm sure da bebe will love it when he gets dexterous enough to use chalk!!!
That looks phenomenal! I have a semi-chalkboard wall and all i do is write grocery lists on it. Why didn't I think to do a mural. You are an artist, don't let anyone tell ya different! Your boy is going to have so much fun with this when he's a wee bit older.
Look at my girl! Whooo! I knew this would turn out well! Digging this whole darn thing, and simultaneously jealous that my landlord won't warm up to a chalkboard wall.
Virtual high five!
STUNNING!!! Really. It looks wonderful. Very cool. Shows your cool style.
SHANNON - I LOVE IT. And I really love your drawing. It looks so great. Talk about a conversation piece.
Good for you! It looks great! I'm a big fan of blackboard walls :)
I love the wall! I think it's so much cooler than in a frame. Awesome drawing! Where did you get your red curtains?
I'm going to do vintage St. Joe's and come over every Friday and wet down the wall with a sponge. It must be done every Fridee!!
AMAZE-BALLS! You are such a creative, artistic and courageous woman - this looks spectacular!
I want to do the same thing but we have textured walls. Do you? And if so, did your husband sand them all down, or just slap the paint on? It looks great!
You are a draw-er! I love this- Moms should have their own toys.
Gabe is going to have so much fun with that someday...
ummm... awesome. the possibilities are endless.
You already know it... but you kick ass :+)
Awesome girl!! And whoa at that drawing! I'm impressed! And you know this wall will be a favorite of your little guy when he gets big enough to draw, right? :)
Seriously Shan? You couldn't just doodle "eggs milk and bread" like the rest of us? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, you had to do a whole landscape. What, no "Creation of Adam"?
Regardless, that is going be so exciting for Baby Gaby when he can chalk that ish up.

First of all, your "doodles" make me sick. Perfectionsist. Okay, they don't make me sick. Just sick with jealousy. Love the chalkboard wall!
I love this! How great will it be to post menus when you entertain and party games for kids??? I love it love it love it! I have big hopes for chalkboard paint when I am decorating my future childrens' rooms. Bravo!
Stop it. Right now. I am in LOVE. You did a GREAT job.
totalllllly awesome! I love that and I think it'll be awesome for Gabe. I'm sure he'll draw plenty of "2 feet above the floor" masterpieces. (you'll just have to fill in the top)
GReat job!!!!
Looks awesome! And I would say you are much of a draw-er. My sketches look like a Kindergartner drew them.
The chalk wall looks great! Gives me hope that I might be able to do this too! I've always been hesitant about all this new chalk/magnet paint!
This is awesome! I love it! You are really talented. I am not very good at drawing but you have done such a great job.
AMAZING! So bold of you! (PS - Is it pathetic that my first thought was "Ooh! It's like the big chalkboard wall on Jersey Shore!" ??)
DUDE! A+++ girl for the mural and A+++ for the wall it's awesome!!! Just imagine how many fun drawings your little man is going to come up with when he gets a little bigger! best use of a wall ever! ox
I love love love this! Its fantastic! I wish I owned a house so that I could do this.
Someone else asked if your walls are textured, and I'm curious to know too!
I've had some chalkboard paint and some thin MDF that I've been wanting to paint and mount on the walls. Because my walls are textured and all, so I feel like my chalky surface needs to be smooth. Ack!
Yours looks fantastic!
LOVE IT. annnd I totally just convinced my husband to paint a chalkboard wall in my breakfast nook!
