Minimal Effort Makeover

We're back once again in my notoriously hard-to-photograph dining room. This room is my red-headed stepchild. It came with the house and I've blatantly ignored it for the past year. It is the dining room that sees no dining. The breakfast room sees dining and the couch sees a lot of dining, but the dining room? Nada. But I do walk through it every day, multiple times. This alone should warrant some attention. But I could never figure out what curtains to hang or centerpiece to use and what the hell do I put on top of my buffet? So I'm doing it in stages. And the first stage is done - the curtains.

You guys, I made them myself!! Jump up and down for me please. This is exciting news. No-sew! Stitch Witchery! My gem of a husband gifted me with some serious yardage of this gorgeous Amy Butler Midwest Modern Fresh Poppies in Linen fabric. I turned around and whipped these bad boys up. And by "whipped up", I mean sat around for 2 months staring at a pile of fabric.

Well when the curtains came in, I saw exactly how awesome the pink and gray and green looked together. Obvs. pink was my go-to accent color. How often do you get to use pink?

So I grabbed some accessories. The tray is from Target. The jars & moss are PB (I swear the most I'll spend in there is $20) and the lantern is Home Goods. Oh the runner? Made it my self.

Bowls are from Pier One. Adorbs striped plates are from JC Penney and the bird is frrom Michaels. Annnnnnd extra fabric sitting there because I don't know what else to do with it.

She's a beaut, Clark.

Stay tuned for more dining room improvements! The lighting fixture's gotta go. The buffet needs adornment and the white framed corkboard is begging for some DIY prettying-up. I am bound and determined to finish before the arrival of my very own curtain climber.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the curtains. Could you get your hubs to talk to JEGs about rockin' gifts like fabric?? I usually get things like cellphones (that I promptly destroy).

I would never have thought of pink as an accent color, but I'm digging it.

If the bird ends up missing one night, it wasn't me. At all.

I love that fabric. Perhaps this will finally inspire me to finally upgrade the drapes throughout my home too. They need help.

OMG I think it looks good right now. The curtains you choose are perfect and I love the pink accents. I wish I could do pink accents somewhere in the house. I think my husband would have a mutiny.

for God's sake....THIS is your red-headed step child. I'll show you a red headed stepchild. This looks gorgeous. I love the curtains... perfection. And, the wall color is gorgeous with it.

I want this room in my house. So, I'll trade you the orange egg basket for the entire room. Deal?

I love them!!! And they're the perfect length! I always struggle with that. So sweet that the hubs gave the material to you for a present. He's a keeper. :)

It's funny how certain rooms that look good to everyone else, can drive a girl crazy. Your dining room looks great! But I hope you and your dining room live happily ever after now. :)

How did you make the curtains? I can't find curtains I like long enough (I need 96" plus) to save my life. Either they are great fabric but too short or boring fabric but long enough. And I can't sew. As in failed home-ec can't sew. So I'm digging the concept of no sew curtains of any fabric I desire.....
